If you’re planning to migrate to Australia under the Skilled Migration Program, there’s an important update you need to know! On 7 August 2025, the Department of Home Affairs (DHA), Australia, announced a revision in the PTE Academic score requirements for General Skilled Migration visas.

This update impacts thousands of international applicants and is aimed at ensuring a more accurate representation of English proficiency in alignment with real-world language use and other recognized tests like IELTS.

🔍 What Are the New PTE Score Requirements?

The revised score chart as of 7 August 2025 is as follows:

📌 These changes apply to all skilled migration subclasses including Subclass 189, 190, and 491, where English language ability is assessed using PTE Academic.

 What Does This Mean for Applicants?

This is a significant change and mostly a positive shift for PTE test takers.

• Competent English now requires just a 47, making it easier to meet the basic English requirement for skilled migration.

• Proficient English, which contributes 10 additional points to your Expression of Interest (EOI), is now set at 58, down from 65.

• The Superior English level, which brings maximum English points (20 points), is now only 69, instead of 79 earlier.
