Australia Skilled Migration Plan 2025-26 Released on 2 September 2025

On 2 September 2025, the Australian Government formally released the Permanent Migration Program for the 2025-26 financial year. The announcement confirms continuity in migration planning, with a strong emphasis on skilled migration. This plan shapes the pathway for thousands of professionals worldwide looking to contribute to Australia’s economy.

What’s New & What Remains the Same

• Fixed Cap of 185,000 Visas
  The total number of permanent migration places for 2025-26 remains 185,000, the same as the 2024-25 program.

• Continued Priority on Skilled Migration
  Most of the places are still reserved under the Skilled Stream, reflecting Australia’s ongoing need for professionals with the right skills to address labor shortages and drive economic growth.

• Streams & Allocation Structure
  Key visa categories under the Skilled Stream are expected to maintain similar allocations to previous years:
  • Employer-Sponsored Visas – steady at ~44,000 places. 
  • Skilled Independent Visas (Subclass 189) – about 16,900 places. 
  • State/Territory Nominated Visas – approx. 33,000. 
  • Regional Visas – about 33,000 places.

• Family Stream
  The Family Stream allocations also remain largely the same. Around 52,500 places are set aside for partner, parent, child, and other family-related visas.
